9 Minutes is Not Enough Time– How Individualized Care Can Help Your People

How individualized care can help your people. Imagine going to the doctor with a list of concerns. Symptoms that you have experienced for weeks, or months. Then, after about 10 minutes of concise discussion with your doctor, you leave the office with a prescription that is intended to help. But doesn’t.

THE FRUSTRATIONS OF HEALTHCARE

Years of repeated appointments such as these can lead to delayed or misdiagnosis which can have severe health consequences. Short visits and vague discussion leaves ample room for error. As consumers of healthcare, we can all relate to scenarios like these. We are used to seeing our healthcare provider for a limited period of time. Seeing the doctor for 9-20 mins is not long enough for patients to cover all concerns. Patients can feel rushed and may forget specific, important information about their condition and doctors often don’t have time to talk about previous medical history that could be relevant to the current issue.

During these appointments, further symptoms or previous conditions can be missed. Patients often need additional appointments for doctors to gather the entire picture and with the cost of medical care, patients may not return for a second visit. This model of healthcare, where physicians and patients spend no longer than 20 minutes discussing concerns, some less than 9 minutes, is putting more and more patients at risk.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO SETTLE

There are options for your people. Imagine a higher-quality healthcare model. Where any health concern can be addressed, with an adequate amount of time. Hour long visits to discuss health issues, mental health concerns, vision, and dental concerns. Any health condition a member is worried about. Treating the whole body quicker.

With this model, members will see a doctor who will become their primary healthcare provider. A doctor they see consistently, who understands the history of their patient and can direct them to the next best step. Whether that is a referral to a specialist, procedure, or surgery. Every following appointment, members will have the time they need to explain their health concerns. Reducing error.

REAL EXPOSURE

This March at the NextGen Healthcare Summit, you will have the chance to hear from three guests who have implemented this healthcare model. Gaining direct access to primary care for employees by contracting with a local clinic can allow employees to speak with their physician for longer periods of time, and give providers more time to gain a more accurate and complete picture. In this model, members have a chance to discuss past and present symptoms and concerns which can lead to more accurate diagnoses and necessary treatment.
